YEAR 10 XL CONFERENCE: MEDICINE, DENTISTRY AND VETERINARY SCIENCE
Recently, Ashton Sixth Form College welcomed Year 10 students from our trust high schools, Fairfield High School, Rayner Stephens High School and Longdendale High School for an XL Conference that focused on Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Science (MDV).
The day gave students a chance to explore what studying and applying for medical pathways is really like, through a series of interactive sessions designed to stretch their thinking beyond the GCSE curriculum. Head of The XL Academy, Rob, delivered a session focusing on the MDV application process. Students also took part in a practical activity that introduced them to the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) format.
Throughout the conference, students explored how science and psychology link directly to medicine, helping them understand how classroom learning can translate into real-world healthcare. The sessions encouraged curiosity, discussion and confidence, giving students a clearer picture of what these pathways involve.
It was a valuable opportunity for students to challenge themselves, explore new subjects, and learn more about the opportunities available through Ashton’s XL Academy. As a Trust, we remain committed to creating equal opportunities and supporting every young person to engage fully with all that MDV has to offer.
