Students Shine at the Stamford Park Trust Young Green Briton Challenge

12 March 2026

This week we hosted the inaugural Stamford Park Trust Young Green Briton Challenge at Ashton Sixth Form College, bringing together students from Fairfield High School, Longdendale High School and Rayner Stephens High School to showcase innovative sustainability ideas.

Following Fairfield High School’s success in last year’s Young Green Briton Challenge, where their sustainable inhaler concept went on to win the national competition, we hosted our own Trust-wide pre-competition in partnership with Young Green Briton ahead of the regional finals.

Opened and chaired by Melanie Wicks, Executive Principal at Stamford Park Trust, three teams from each school presented their projects through presentations and displays before answering questions from the judging panel.
The winners included:

Fairfield High School – Ecoscope: A biodegradable alternative to single-use plastic otoscope covers used in medical practices.
Longdendale High School – Trash to Treasure: Prom dresses made from repurposed fabrics such as bed sheets and curtains to reduce textile waste.

Rayner Stephens High School – SteriLid: A UV light solution designed to keep food fresh for longer and reduce food waste.
A Special Recognition Award went to Rayner Stephens High School’s Forest Fidgets team for their innovative idea developed within a short timeframe.

We are incredibly proud of every student who took part. The creativity, effort and dedication shown throughout the challenge were outstanding. The winning teams will now represent Stamford Park Trust at the Young Green Briton Regional Finals in June.

A huge thank you to our judging panel for supporting the event: Melanie Wicks (Executive Principal, Stamford Park Trust), Martin Foulkes (Executive Director, EcoVida Routes), John Robb (journalist, author, musician and broadcaster), Pete Wade (Chief Commercial Officer, Trainline), Marcus Gill (Stamford Park Trust Trustee and Parish Councillor in Charlesworth), and Sanamdeep, A2 student and sustainability student leader at Ashton Sixth Form College.
