Longdendale High School Celebrates International School Award Accreditation 2025–2028
We are incredibly proud of Longdendale High School for being reaccredited with the International School Award 2025–2028. This week, Headteacher Michael Chiles attended the award ceremony in Westminster, to celebrate this outstanding achievement.
This prestigious award recognises the school’s dedication to integrating a diverse and imaginative range of international initiatives across the curriculum. It celebrates Longdendale’s commitment to embedding international awareness in lessons and helping students broaden their horizons, gaining a deeper understanding of the world they are part of. The award also encourages collaboration with partner schools abroad and provides opportunities for students, staff and the wider community to engage with global learning.
Attending the ceremony was a proud moment for both the school and Stamford Park Trust, bringing together Members of Parliament, representatives from schools across the UK, and educators committed to advancing international learning.
Longdendale’s international work includes a wide variety of exciting projects and activities:
The Samba Transition Event and the BeLONG Festival, celebrating creativity, culture and community.
The MFL Department’s trip to Barcelona, where students practised their Spanish, explored iconic landmarks such as La Sagrada Família and La Boqueria, visited UNESCO World Heritage sites in Tarragona, and experienced authentic Spanish cuisine.
An International Cheerleading Performance in Florida, giving students the opportunity to represent the school globally while gaining cultural experiences and showcasing their talents.
Celebrations of cultural and religious events, such as Eid, Lunar New Year and International Women’s Day, promoting understanding and appreciation of different cultures and traditions.
The school’s first Climate Summit in 2023, where students participated in workshops exploring climate change and environmental issues affecting communities worldwide.
Scott McDonald, Chief Executive of the British Council, said:
“The school has earned this prestigious award through its inspirational international work and links with schools abroad. The International School Award is a chance for schools to be recognised for their important work in bringing the world into their classrooms. This is especially commendable when schools have been deeply affected by the global pandemic. The desire to build on their international work shines through, and it is with utmost pride that we celebrate their achievements. By embedding an international dimension in children’s education, these schools are preparing their students for successful lives in the UK or further afield, empowering them to be global citizens, and creating vital opportunities in an increasingly global economy.”
We are excited to see how Longdendale High School continues its international journey, strengthening connections around the world and empowering students to see themselves as confident, active and responsible global citizens. This achievement is a proud moment for the school, highlighting the impact of high-quality international education across our Trust schools.
